Prom King Quadir Scott and Prom Queen Anna Reese Pratt receive their awards at the dance March 26.

This year’s prom king and queen are both student athletes.

Seniors Quadir Scott and Anna Reese Pratt, who are both on multiple varsity teams along with maintaining good grades in honors classes, received their crown at the dance at the Barefoot Conference Center March 26.

Senior Quadir has been playing sports for as long as he can remember. At Socastee, he has been on the varsity football, basketball, and track teams since he came here his sophomore year. He also plays soccer, baseball, and handball outside of school.

He originally planned to make basketball his main sport, but his experience playing football in high school changed his mind.

“My freshman year I went to Christian Academy and I ended up getting a Division 1 offer from Indiana University, thanks to my brother,” he said. “From there, I was just like ‘this is what I want to do in life.’”

He didn’t end up taking the IU offer. Instead, he accepted a later one for football from Erskine College, a D2 school.

Quadir also takes a variety of high-level classes, including AP calculus and IB Language and IB Biology.

He said he is “a discipline kind of guy” but also “a religious guy.”

“I’m a Christian, so God gets me through my days, if I’m gonna be honest,” he said.

Anna Reese has been involved in sports for most of her life, too.

“I have played many different sports since I was four years old such as softball, basketball, tennis, volleyball, and soccer,” she said.

Anna Reese also is in challenging AP classes, and a member of the National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and Rho Kappa.

“I have been balancing my sports and academics since I was in 7th grade,” she said “Over time, I have had to learn good time management skills in order to do both.”

She is on varsity basketball, volleyball and softball teams.

She said her family motivates her.

“I compete and do everything for them,” she said. “They help me reach my goals.”
