Senior Works Behind the Scenes of Pirate’s Voyage

Senior Works Behind the Scenes of Pirates Voyage
Pigeon Forge

Many students have attended Pirate’s Voyage, the local dinner show with pirates, mermaids, meals, and stunts.

What they might not have realized is that one of their fellow Braves, Senior Will Hare, was behind the scenes of the show, working as a scuba diver along with his dad who plays Captain Blackbeard.

His dad started the job way before him, over seven years ago, when he was recognized as an indie film actor who resembled and had the right voice for the captain.

Will followed into the job, starting as a front-of-the-house cashier, and later moving up when there was an opening for a scuba diver.

“You have to take classes, they’re not even hard,” he said. “It’s just the fact you have to be in the mindset while working that something could go wrong and if it does it’s your responsibility to go help.”

Will says the most valuable lesson he’s learned from this job is social skills and how to work under stressful conditions.

“If someone falls incorrectly or if they’re going for a breather underwater and it pops off I have to hand them mine and keep them submerged,” he said.

When working, he doesn’t have the time to think about what he’s going to do. He has to be on guard at all times watching what’s happening ready to make split second decisions.

“If a mermaid were to fall, hit her head on something, and start sinking to the bottom, I can’t freeze up, I have to go in and help her, get her to the top, and get someone over,” he said.

Although stressful he still enjoys working his swashbuckling, pirate themed job.

“It’s very fun…I just get to swim around all day,” he said.
