A few weeks ago, students were roaming around, looking for ducks.

They weren’t outside, and the ducks weren’t real. It was part of the first ever “Duck Duck Go Braves” contest set up by Nurse Susan Cyganiewicz as a way of bringing new excitement to students.

Nurse Susan hid close to 400 tiny resin blue ducks and in various places around the school. Students who found the most ducks Jan. 27-29 won a prize.

“I was so happy to see the excitement that DuckDuckGo Braves brought students and staff,” said Nurse Susan. “I wanted to do something to create some excitement- something fun to lift our spirits.”

The grand prize was a hat donated by the Athletics Dept, a Braves t-shirt donated by the Brave Cave, a gift card for Cappuccino Day donated by the media center, six World’s Finest chocolate bars.

Originally, when Nurse Susan hid the ducks, the first person to claim a prize was Science

Teacher Mr. Gregory French. She then opened the contest to only students for the 2nd place prize.

Mr. French shows off his certificate for being the first to find the most hidden ducks.

Junior Ruth Hensley won that prize – with a little help.

“I wasn’t the only one looking,” she said. “It was me and my brother Zion, but we only found five together.”

Right before she turned them in, she asked the people in Theatre 3 if they had any ducks to spare.

“I got some from Georja Mosser and Emily Bridges,” she said.

There should be another fun contest in the future.

“I definitely plan to do this or something similar in the future,” Nurse Susan said. Chief Chronister with JROTC has already offered to purchase the next items to hide and hunt.
