When is it too early to celebrate the Christmas spirit?

In a survey of more than 200 Socastee students and staff, more than 78 percent said they decorate right after Halloween, while 22 percent wait until after Thanksgiving.

Assistant Principal Travis Eppleman said he starts decking the halls early

“I personally think the appropriate time to start putting up decorations is a minute after midnight on October 31,” he said

Sophomore Michelle Urban  agrees, because of how happy holiday decor makes everyone.

“I don’t wait a second past midnight after trick-or-treating to put up my decorations,” she said. “Time shouldn’t be wasted on setting up perfectly for an amazing holiday.”

While some people at Socastee think Christmas should be celebrated starting in fall, others feel quite the opposite. Sophomore Evan Wicker is very clear that Christmas needs to be put on hold.

“People just skip right over it and go straight into Christmas when we have a whole other holiday beforehand,” he said.

Meanwhile, Physical Education Coach Jackson Calhoun said either early or late is fine.

“I personally believe that Christmas can be celebrated all year round if that’s what a person desires,” he said. “The decorations can be fun and festive and can brighten someone’s day.”

Special Education Teacher Mr. Zachary Cruse is among those who celebrate all year long. He has a tree in his classroom that his mom bought him that he keeps up year round.

“ It’s a holiday tree,” he said. “We decorate it for each holiday of the year.”

Emma Martin said she likes how decorating brings people together.

“I love the way I get to see all of my family along with the decorations and the smells of the air and the trees just how everyone is just so happy,” she said.
