Senior Cassidy Cocca prepares to serve against Sumpter.

Senior Cassidy Cocca held the No. 1 spot on the tennis team this year, and was the only player to make it to the state tournament, where she placed 6th.

She has been playing tennis since she was 4 years old.

“I found my love for tennis when I used to live in New York,” she said.

She practices for up to two to three hours a day during the season and about three to four in the off season, when she takes private lessons at Playmakers Tennis Academy.

“I have put in countless hours of hard work,” she said.

All the practice has helped her develop confidence during matches.

“I trust in my skill set before walking into every match,” she said.

Brooke Rogers, who used to be the No. 1 tennis player before she graduated and who won the state championship in 2021, was an inspiration to Cassidy, she said.

“I’ve always looked up to her and having her around gives me a sense of confidence.”
