Socastee Men’s Tennis finished 4-2 and were region champs.

They lost the first round of playoffs to Dutch Fork, but were proud of their strong play in the regular season..

“We lost a lot of seniors last year, but everyone put in a lot of hard work and we ended up winning the region,” Senior Cade Cox said.

The team practiced four days a week, two hours each day.

“We hit with each other and challenged each other to be ready for matches,” Cade said.

Their season included many highlights, including “our clutch wins against St. James, which had allowed us to be region champs and become the No. 1 seed of our region,” Senior LapFung Chan stated.

Low points in the season were tight losses against Carolina Forest, he said. ”We should have won both times to completely dominate our region.”

In addition to the team’s successful season, outstanding players Arav Patel and Jordan Kirk went undefeated throughout all of their games, and Arav Patel was selected as Region Player of the Year.

The team developed  good team chemistry, despite having a lot of new players.

“Lots of the guys have not played tennis in the past,” LapFung said, “so learning and practicing tennis was a whole process throughout the season.”

With two seniors leaving, next season could be tough, Junior Marshall Welch said, “but we believe we will win the regions again and make it further in the playoffs.”
