The Varsity Womens Volleyball team had a successful season with an overall record of 13-9.
One key player who contributed to the Lady Braves’ wins was rising star and eighth grader Sierra Roberts. Sierra was a standout athlete on the team this year. She was the team’s outside hitter, attacking and blocking from the left side.
The sport of volleyball has had a big impact on Sierra’s journey through life.
“Volleyball has definitely made me so happy and such a better person,” Sierra said.
Sierra is one of only two middle schoolers on the team and is the only middle school starter.
Her journey with the game started four years ago when she would go to the gym and watch her sisters, Cami and Mercer, play the sport. She said that constantly watching her older sisters play helped her learn a lot about the sport.
Sierra plays outside of Socastee at a club level for the Grand Strand Juniors. She is thought very highly of by her teammates and coaches.
“Her volleyball IQ is as good as any upperclassman’s court smarts,” Coach Christine Gifford said.
She said her strength on the court is as strong as any player of any age in the last five years at Socastee.
“Sierra will continue to make a name for herself through her volleyball career,” Coach Gifford said. “Besides being a great athlete, she is coachable and her team adores her.”
Sierra said she hopes to continue her volleyball journey after high school.
“I’m hoping to play volleyball in college, D1, and I really want to play at LSU,” she said.
