Coastal Carolina graduate Ms. Renea Urbaniak (pronounced Renae Urban-ee-ak) is one of  Socastee High School’s newest math teachers. But the first-year teacher already has familiarity with the 3rd floor.

She interned at Socastee in the spring, working with Mr. Crouch and Mr. Mook. She thought all the teachers were very welcoming and loved the math department.

”That’s what drew me to apply and I really wanted to work here,” she said. “So I’m just excited to be here around people that are supporting me.,”

Ms. Urbaniak also knows Myrtle Beach well. She attended AAST for four years, graduating from her base school North Myrtle Beach in 2018. She then went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Applied Mathematics and a Master’s degree in Arts of Teaching Secondary Math from Coastal Carolina.

She describes her teaching style as interactive, and tries to create lessons that involve engaging activities and small-group work.

“I really like making fun games that practice the content,” she said. “Sometimes we do things like math, baseball, digital escape rooms, or interactive choice boards.”

Freshman Nolan Argento, who has Ms. Urbaniak for Math, said he enjoys these activities, and said math is one of his favorite classes..

“I like how she’s enthusiastic about her job,” he said “She’s just a nice teacher.”

Outside of school, Ms. Urbaniak enjoys spending time with her family and doing outdoor activities.

“I like to walk my dogs, go kayaking, four-wheeling, and hiking.” she said.

She has a twin sister,  who she does a lot with, including watching sports.

“I always go to Pelican games and football games,” she said.. “I’m a [Carolina] Panthers fan and I go to a lot of games.”
